Chief AI Officer (CAIO) Executive Program

About Course

Your teams are already using AI, often with no framework and no measurable result. This 36-hour Canadian executive program teaches you how to decide where to invest, how to calculate the real return and how to manage the risks. It is built on real cases (RBC, Air Canada, Klarna, Deloitte) rather than theory. Each module ends with a deliverable you complete for your own organization. You leave with a 90-day action plan and a presentation ready for your leadership team.

What Will You Learn?

  • Assess your organization’s AI maturity and find where the value lies.
  • Choose the right use cases with a method you can defend.
  • Build a business case your CFO will agree to sign.
  • Select and question your vendors, and know which contract clauses to require.
  • Set up AI governance aligned with the Canadian legal framework.
  • Run a pilot project that ends with a decision backed by numbers.
  • Get your teams to adopt AI, with training matched to each role.
  • Present your project to leadership and handle the tough questions.

Course Content

Module 1: Where the Value Really Is
What you will be able to do by the end of this module • Explain why most AI projects produce no measurable result, and what the successful ones do differently. • Place your organization on six maturity dimensions, using evidence rather than impressions. • Measure what your teams are already doing with AI, often without telling you. • Name the three pools where value can be found in your organization. • Choose the real process that will serve as your common thread throughout the program.

  • 1.1 The number nobody likes
  • 1.2 Where Canada stands
  • 1.3 The three pools of value
  • 1.4 How the best define value before they go looking for it
  • 1.5 The six-dimension maturity diagnostic
  • 1.6 Measuring shadow AI
  • 1.7 Choosing your anchor process
  • Workshop: completing Deliverable D1
  • Key takeaways

Module 2: Finding and Sorting Use Cases
What you will be able to do by the end of this module • Identify use cases from the processes that cost the most, not from the tools in fashion. • Sort ideas with five simple questions and quickly eliminate false good ideas. • Tell apart the three levels of AI autonomy and choose the right one to start with. • Score your ideas on value and feasibility, and filter out those with high risk. • Select three use cases you can defend in front of your leadership team.

Module 3: Put a Number on It Before You Spend
What you will be able to do by the end of this module • Measure a credible baseline, even without a sophisticated measurement system. • Calculate a realistic fully loaded hourly cost. • Quantify benefits using four levers, applying a capture rate. • Draw up the full list of costs, including the ones everyone forgets. • Present three scenarios and a stop threshold that a CFO will agree to sign

Module 4: Data, Technology and Vendors
What you will be able to do by the end of this module • Answer the five questions a leader must be able to ask about their data. • Understand what today’s AI tools do, without technical jargon, so you can ask the right questions. • Choose between buying a tool, adapting a platform or building a custom solution. • Question a vendor with a structured questionnaire and compare several offers. • Spot the contract clauses that protect your organization.

Module 5: Governance, Risk and the Canadian Legal Framework
What you will be able to do by the end of this module • Describe in plain terms the legal framework that applies to AI in Canada as of October 2026, federally, in Quebec and in Ontario. • Identify the eight risks a head of AI must track, and the measure that addresses each one. • Set up governance proportionate to the size of your organization. • Adopt a generative AI use policy that your teams will understand and follow. • Keep a register of your AI systems and know what to do when a decision is fully automated. Disclaimer. This module helps you ask the right questions and organize your compliance. It does not replace advice from a lawyer. For any decision that engages your liability, consult your legal advisor.
